Conquest.

Board Game Design.
'Conquest'

The Theme.

The idea to do a Chinese Checkers in the theme of a war game,
was inspired by my resent playing of game such as; Dominion, Settlers of Catan and Carcassonne. I thought this would bring a new feeling to the game and add another layer to the connection between the player and his or her game pieces.

Dominion

Carcassonne

Settlers of Catan

The Style.

The style of the game board was inspired by wood etched map,
such as the ones shown below. I felt this theme would bring a feeling of
authenticity to the design. I don't think I quite captured the style on a technical level,
but for the time it took I thought it would suffice.

Time and Void.

Uroboros Clock Design.
'Time and Void'

'Time and Void'

This name was inspired by a favorite quote of mine by the Greek philosopher Democritus.
The quote reads:

"By convention sweet
and by convention bitter,
by convention hot,
by convention cold,
by convention color;
but in reality atoms and void"

I felt this quote had relevance to my clock design, in that 'time' is a human construct,
composed to help us quantify the movement of life in a way that fits our number orientated brains.

Uroboros.

Definition:

"A circular symbol depicting a snake, or less commonly a dragon, swallowing its tail,
as an emblem of wholeness or infinity."

I chose the Uroboros symbol as the base of my clock because of its connection to infinity.
I feel this connection made for an interesting contrast between 'time', which can be measured and has a theoretical beginning and end, and 'infinity' which can not be measured and has no beginning and end.
This is why I chose to not include numbers on my design,
as that would infer a beginning and end.

This is a common depiction of Uroboros and my main reference.

Infinity.

Definition:

The state or quality of being infinite.
"the infinity of space"

An infinite or very great number or amount.
"an infinity of combinations"

a point in space or time that is or seems infinitely distant.
"the lawns stretched into infinity"

This is the most common symbol used to represent infinity.
I used this symbol to emphasise the theme of infinity in my design and rendered it with
the scales of Uroboros to tie the piece together.

Protection Symbols.

"A protection symbols used against demons and creatures of evil."

I chose this symbol to represent the peoples fear of passing time and their impeding end.
I wanted to depict a symbolic 'breaking of infinity' to represent mans incredulity towards the Infinite.
I did this by placing the protection glyph over the centre of the infinity symbol.
Therefore breaking the cycle of infinity.

The Pentagram.

"A circle around a pentagram contains and protects.
The circle symbolises eternity and infinity, the cycles of life and nature.
The circle touching all 5 points indicates that the spirit, earth, air, water
and fire are all connected."

In my design I stamped the pentagram symbol on the face of Uroboros to further
emphasise the theme of infinity. I chose this symbol because it is often misinterpreted
as a mark of evil and devil worship. I felt this was a good example of
the fear of the Infinite.
